There is an old saying that "Death brings perspective".  Not many people leave this life wishing that they had spent more time on their computers ,game gadgets, at work or wishing they had spent a little bit more money.  Yet it seems that until we are faced with the realities of death we have a tendency to "waste our lives" on the unimportant.

The Apostle Paul was aware that his days were numbered and with that came an even sharper focus of what was important in this life.  In this wrap up of his second letter to Timothy, this great man of God leaves his final words.  The pages are filled with exhortations to remain strong and to endure hardship, preach the gospel and press on.

As he finishes up his letter it ends with a list of names.  Not just any list of names but the names of those that he was in relationship with.  This example from Paul reminds us that there are few important things in this life and at the center of it  is relationships... relationship with God himself and relationships with people.

Paul walks through this list of people who loved him, hated him, stood by him, deserted him and served with him.  As this passage is expressed it reminds us of the truth that "Everyone needs a Paul, Barnabus and Timothy" i.e. an older person to mentor us, a friend to walk with us and a younger person for us to lead.

At the core of life is relationships...we were created to display God's glory that way.
